Pond Stagnation

Pond Stagnation is one of the most common problems afflicting small ponds and lakes. Stagnation occurs when pond waters have no inflow of other fresh water sources or circulation.

Pond stagnation is generally characterized by low oxygen levels and temperature stratification of the water, which is extremely unhealthy for fish populations and can aid in the growth of unwanted algae and other pond vegetation.

Pond stagnation also acts as prime breeding grounds for insects and mosquitoes. Circulating water prevents an environment where insects and mosquito larvae can incubate and hatch. Limiting the ability for mosquitoes to hatch can control the mosquito population and reduce the chances of west nile virus.

One of the best and most cost effective ways to circulate water in your pond and prevent pond stratification, stagnation and algae growth is to install an aeration system.

There are two types of Pond aeration systems; Bottom Up aeration and Surface Mount Aeration. A bottom up aeration system is 5-10 times more effective then surface aeration systems such as fountains.

Pond Aeration systems provide Koi and every other kind of fish with additional levels of oxygen in the water to ensure they remain healthy as the temperatures and seasons change. Overall pond health and freshness will dramatically improve with the addition of an aeration system.
